A familiar fruit for many of us...
A lot of people are kind of intimidated by pineapple. It's a harsh-looking plant, I know.
A lot of people don't know how to pick one or what exactly to do with it once you get it home.
I used to think that I don't like pineapple. WHAT?! Then I went to Hawaii and realized that I'm just a pineapple snob. I only like it super fresh! Li hing powder doesn't hurt either...
Did you know that, unlike many other fruits, the actual color of the pineapple is no indication of how ripe it is? It's true! One may think that the pineapple pictured below either has a way to go before it's edible, or it is long past its prime. UNTRUE! Pineapples come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. The way to tell whether a pineapple is really ripe is to simply smell it. If it smells sweet and has a strong pineapple scent (imagine that...) it is probably ripe!
So the next time you go to the grocery store, don't be afraid to smell some pineapples and maybe take one home! There are many videos on youtube on how to cut/prepare pineaple--it's not as formidable as it may seem!
Don't let your eyes be the judge...

Super, big, huge, ENORMOUS sorry and an even bigger thank you for your patience with me. Life has been totally nuts lately. I've been insanely busy. And I will be for the next few weeks. I've been in the process of getting packed and moved (back to the mainland--Utah!!) so I haven't had anytime between work and my son and life in general to get any kind of editing done. Again--my apologies. I promise I will get busy as soon as possible. I've got halloween this weekend, a wedding next weekend, my son's first birthday the weekend after that, and then I have to get ready for Thanksgiving.....add a major move to the mix and you can see why I may be bald by Christmas.
Here's something that I found hiding amongst my pictures--some stuff from an awesome, relaxing afternoon on the beach at Kaena Point with my son...man, I'm gonna miss this...
